Owls sweep Hill toppers on Saturday to culminate weekend tilt
April 17, 2010 -- From the looks of the skies this Saturday, players and Coaches weren’t sure if they could get these two games off the ground.
To the contrary, not one pitch or hit was delayed due the impending precipitation in the air. Both games got played, each with its own dramatics and fireworks.
In game one, centerfielder and new bright shining star Nathan Pittman went two for three with two runs scored and one RBI. With a single in the third, and a Mike Albaladejo base hit plus Andy Mee safely on first, FAU manufactured six runs alone in the third inning.
In addition to the two for three from the bat of Pittman, nascent sophomore catcher Mike Albaledejo went four for five with one run scored and one RBI.
Scoring two runs in the fourth, plus a double by Colby Gratton in the fifth – each run was seamlessly put together with precision and accuracy.
In between pitching changes, John McCormack collected his crew from on base and implored to them “I really didn’t say much more than I normally say. They know what their job is and what they should do.”
Modest despite some questionable calls, McCormack’s trips to the umpire are always cool, calm and collected. With aplomb he delivers the kind of message all teams want to hear. Those of encouragement.
With Kevin Alexander’s four innings and three strikeouts, while pitching to eleven batters all in shutout form, you can start to notice that the Owls pitching staff may be coming into their own.
Andy Mee’s 3 RBI, one for four batting, plus pitching an inning in relief may be one to choose as your all around MVP.
But how could you, its hard to say, for this win brought many players who contributed much in the way of hits, pitches and outs.
In addition, Barry Rooks got the win pitching one inning in relief.
Hope you caught the game on radio at http://www.fausports.com/ or at the ballpark, or they will see you next time.
