FGCU takes second game vs. FAU this year May 11, 2010 - The Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles got the better of FAU today in Boca Raton, Florida; home of the Fighting Owls. The final score was 8-5.
The Owls scored at least one run in each of the following innings; 1st, 2nd, 4th and fifth. FGCU scored four runs in each if the 4th and 5th innings to overcome an early deficit handed out by the Owls.
Starting Freshman Kevin Alexander had a little bit of an off night as he allowed 4 runs in 4 innings pitched. Lou Morey was outstanding with his 4 innings of 4 strikeout ball.
Alexander faced 15 batters while Morey faced a total of 16. Hugh Adams faced 7 batters in middle relief letting in 4 runs while collecting the loss. His record now stands at (3-1).

While the Eagles pushed in 8 runs from 3 batters, the Owls collected on four batters for 5 runs. Raymond Church went 2/5, Eddie Cassidy 2/4, Nathan Pittman, an outstanding ¾ and Chase Furgason ½.
One of the deciding factors in the game was total hits. FGCU had 13 hits while FAU received 10. FAU also left 7 on base, compared to 6 for the Eagles. In the 1st inning, the Owls left 2 on base, and collected one run on three hits.
Early in the game, specifically in the 2nd inning – the Owls scored two runs on two hits. Again, the Owls dialed in more in the 4th, with 1 run on 1 hit & 1 LOB.
The Owls were still not done as they scored another in the fifth on two hits. The whole kit & caboodle hinged on how FAU pitching responded to the hit parade displayed in four innings for the Owls.
Discouragingly it was an off night for FAU. FGCU scored all of their runs in back to back innings, and was anchored by pitcher Patrick Nathanson who threw for a total of 8 strikeouts.
Although FAU did not have a career night, all the signs are their to reap future rewards based on hitting for this band of brothers. Pitching will be a work in progress as age and maturity develop over time.
