UALR calls in the reserves as the Trojans battle is Won
Saturday, January 9, 2012 - - At the Jack Stevens Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, the FAU Owls and the UALR Trojans put on a competitive tilt for the 3,888 fans and students in attendance.
With a 6-11, 3-0 conference record, the Trojans look forward to a better second half of the season culminating at the the Sun-Belt Conference Tournament.
Florida Atlantic has a similar plight. With their 5-11, 1-2 in Conference play record, they look to improve well before the conclusion of the season.
All this in order to seed well for the Tourney.
Quite the low shooting percentage for both teams, UALR shot 29.5% of field goals attempted. The Owls shot at 32.6% for the game.
The high scorer of the game versus FAU was guard D'eAndre Williams with 14 and rounding out the second leading scorer was guard #13 Chuck Guy with nine. On the other side of the bench was the visitors of Boca Raton, Florida.
The Owls high scorer was #52 Kore White with 17 points, and coming up second was guard Greg Gantt with eight. The first points of the game came at 17:48 remaining in the first half.
Both teams may have looked out of step at the beginning of the game, as the gravity of the game was filled with bragging rights.
Before to long it was UALR with a five point lead while the next possession arrived in the hands of Shavar Richardson who knocked down a three pointer.
With three steals and three assists alone, MVP of the game must have gone to De'Andre Richardson. He lifted up the team once again to garner a six point lead by the 15 minute mark.
Slowly but surely, as UALR started to pull away in the first half, FAU began a charge of their own that allowed the lead to be cut by only two points by the end of the first half.
This low scoring affair gave both teams only 18 points at the conclusion of the second half and subsequently the game. The differential was only two points at the conclusion.
UALR was exceptional on the boards as was FAU, which is just one reason why they were able to keep this low scoring affair at bay, a product of Field Goal percentage in the 20-30's and turnovers.
The in flight Owls collected 35 boards while UALR had 30. FAU and UALR had 19 turnovers apiece, and can leave an impression on a score, like the 40-38 final tally with the Trojans victorious.
