2/11/2010 FAU vs ULL Mens Basketball
The FAU Owls have now brought their record for the East division to(9-5). West Division ULL pulls up behind and is now (8-5). Both records factor into a bid for the Sun-Belt Championships for Mike Jarvis and his team. After the game he spoke of giving the kids a break before the FIU matchup coming up next week, by reducing the number of hours on court in practice. Gregg Gantt was high scorer with 23 points and played 35 minutes. He set the freshman record for most three point shots made in a season with (65). He spoke after the game of having tough shots and that his teammates did a great job posting up low in the block. Brett Royster was spectacular on both ends of the floor. At one point he blocked back-to-back shots and was on the winning exchange of a number of dunks. Royster scored 16 points and played 36 minutes in total. Sanchez Hughley broke the ULL squad on a steal and layup late in the game to give the Owls a two point lead. Alex Tucker was 4-for-4 from the line, scored 12 and doled out 12 assists. FAU made great use of the time and bench using T/O when needed, for rest. The Owls team field goal percentage was both over 50% in both halfs. On the other hand, ULL shot 43% in the first half and a bit over 50% in the 2nd half. The raucous crowd of 1103 was of benefit, and the Marketing department deserves credit for their part. Most of the game was much out of reach for the Ragin Cajuns as FAU went into halftime with a twelve point lead. The adjustments made on behalf of the defense was done by Ray Taylor who stated they had been practicing all week on it. Taylor knocked down 29 of his own points and distributed the ball for 4 assists. All in all, this confident team of twelve may come back with a message full of hope.
