Preview of FAU vs. USA at the Sun-Belt Tournament
3/3/2010: To be held on 3/6/2010, the Owl’s first round matchup with USA here starts earliest. FAU here is scheduled for a 3:15 PM start while the next closest game begins at 6:45 PM all the way through a 9:00 PM start.
One to watch is USA’s Tim Williams, who on Tuesday was named to the all Sun-Belt Conference here second team. In January he was named Player of the week for averaging 20.7 points in road games versus UF here, FIU here and FAU here. He played all thirty games.
FAU’s own Greg Gantt and Ray Taylor were named to the all Sun-Belt Conference third team, while Brett Royster was named Defensive Player of the year.
The Owl’s split two games this year with the Jaguars. Both games were held in Alabama. The first, a loss was by three points in overtime while the second was won by eleven.
Three main cogs for FAU’s in conference games were Greg Gantt, Raymond Taylor and Sanchez Hughley. Each has played all eighteen games.
Brett Royster’s blocked shot total was forty-six in conference while his overall was eighty-four. His field goal percentage is .500 and his average points per game equal 9.9.
The Jags have two players shooting over .500. They are Sims and Guerrier. USA’s record is 16-14 overall, 9-6 at home and 5-8 away. They are 2-0 at neutral sites.
In the second game FAU won versus USA, the Owl’s came back from a nine point deficit in the first half to lead by two.
While tied at fifty-three with 5:00 minutes remaining on the clock, FAU started to pull away due to back-to-back three’s and a couple of foul shots by Greg Gantt.
The momentum had changed. Alex Tucker, Brett Royster, Shavar Richardson and Sanchez Hughley also offered their support by way of baskets.
