Owls take two of three in Troy, Alabama
On Friday, March 12th, 2010 - - FAU here took one of their two games to the bank after a score of 13-8. Game two was equally as impressive when the Owl’s pulled off a 5-4 victory in the 11th inning.

Following the two games mentioned, FAU allowed a four run tally to topple the Owl’s in their attempt of a sweep. Game one was one for the record books.

First Baseman Dan Scheffler put one over the fence while three men were on base producing a Grand Slam. Ryan Garton (2-0) pitched for eleven strikeouts.

Other notables include Chase Fergason who went 1-for-1 and two runs, Right fielder Andy Mee who went two-for-five, scored two runs and had one RBI, and designated hitter Eddie Cassidy who went two-for-five with two RBI.

Anthony Mesa also notched his third Home Run of the season. Taylor Everist threw to five batters in relief with one strikeout. The second game produced a closer game.

That second game went into extra innings, eleven innings to be exact. Thanks to the reliable service of Nick DelGuidice, who knocked one out of Riddle Pace field (c. 1931), would we be sitting here wondering what might have happened had we gone farther yet.

As for Mike Albaledejo, he went four for five with one run, two RBI and an average of .326 on the year. Albaledejo also stole three bases in game two.

Andy Mee hit two-for-five on day one with a replication of the same in game two.

The ace of this years Owl’s lineup is senior pitcher Mike Gipson, who pitched six innings of mostly flawless ball.

“Mike is physically very strong for his size and weight,” stated Coach John McCormack of his sturdy pitcher. Gipson threw eight strikeouts, allowed three runs, with a 2.42 ERA.

Anthony Mesa hit his second home run on the year. Game three was a bit different.

Freshman Kevin Alexander put in yeoman’s work but got a little roughed up in the process. Troy is a seasoned team with mostly Junior’s and Senior’s on their roster.

Pitching five innings with ten hits against and seven runs charged. Alexander can take comfort in his youth as later more may be expected of him.

Hugh Adams also threw to seven batters in relief. Adams gave up the last three runs that the Trojans scored. Adams is a sophomore this season and hails from Bethesda, MD.
