The Coach Mike Jarvis Radio Show with Ken LaVicka, Monday 1/10/2011

A full house gathered for the Mike Jarvis Radio show hosted by ESPN 760 and Ken LaVicka at Hooters of Boca Raton this night. (2240 NW 19th Street, Boca Raton, FL 33431.)

LaVicka started the show off with a question about the 4-0 record FAU has garnered in all Sun-Belt games this year. With the 11-6 start, this record is worth mentioning as a first since the Owls joined the Sun-Belt Conference.

Coach Jarvis responded that it’s a great start and hopes for a continuation in his teams winning ways. FAU follows up with Manhattan in an out of Conference game on Tuesday night, starting at 7pm at the Burrow.

Following the game, FAU takes to the road again, this time to MTSU in Murfreesboro, TN for a contest with the Blue Raiders.

Next, the Owl’s are on to Kentucky to play the Hill toppers of WKU. Each progression in the season can solidify team unity and cohesiveness, something a Coach is always looking for.

This element exists with this team today, especially after a trip they made together over the summer. The Owls had the pleasure of visiting Amsterdam, Belgium and France.

Coach Jarvis said they learned how to open their minds and experience a different way of living. They visited all the sites and played some Basketball along the way. There record in the 4 games they played in Europe was 3-1-0.

Using revisionist history is an essential tool to know where you were and where you want to be. Three years ago when Coach Jarvis received his team, this meant collecting a 0-6 start at the beginning of the year.

LaVicka mentioned a few comeback games that slipped through the Owls hands at ever close margins. Sienna took a fifteen point lead only to see FAU comeback, while Depaul added a similar lead only to see the lead significantly diminish.

Coach Jarvis mentioned that when teams are at home, they win close to 70% of the time. As to his team’s future, Coach Jarvis mentioned patience and that everything takes time to reach the next step in the journey.

FAU has been mentioned in the same breath as mid-major teams. Next year, FAU hopes to get some great match-ups including those in the New England area. LaVicka stated that the Owls come back to their South Florida home starting on January 22 versus UALR at 1pm.

The Victory bell which gets rung at mid-court after a win at home is a new tradition at FAU, which provides students the opportunity to join in on crowd unity.

Don’t miss out on the Owls next broadcast with Ken LaVicka and Evan Cohen on ESPN Radio 760 @ http://fausports.com/. First Manhattan tonight and then on the road go the Owls.
