Lady Owls fall valiantly due to WKU
February 24, 2010 - - From the very first play in the contest, the lady Hill toppers got their points underneath. When asked about the inside presence of WKU, Coach Dugan said,
“there inside game was unbelievable, plenty of points in the paint, plus second chance opportunities. Thought we battled well, but we made some key mistakes.”
WKU scored thirty eight points in the paint to FAU’s eighteen. Points on turnovers were nearly equal, but the bench points showed a disparity between the two teams. WKU scored seventeen from their bench while FAU had nine.
Going into the half, the score was tied at thirty five, and it may have seemed like the Lady Owls were always coming from behind, as there was four lead changes.
Shooting percentage in the first half was 56% for FAU, and after that it dropped down to 36.7%. Overall the Lady Owls shot 45.5% from the field.
The Lady Hill toppers scored 48% in the first half to 57% in half two.
They had plenty of options underneath where they got most of their baskets. Amy McNear and Dominique Duck each had sixteen points while Arnicka Brown and Kenzie Rich had twelve and fourteen respectively. Coach Dugan commented,
“They have a lot of options and we’ve had to come back before and we had a really good game plan in place, but we threw the ball away on key possessions. You shouldn’t watch the ball get thrown away, just catch the ball.”
FAU turned the ball over eighteen times while WKU had twelve. When asked about their next opponent Coach Dugan said,
“We have been working very hard just be tough, and MTSU is playing for the number one seed. Playing the number one team and with the game on TV, you have to be ready. MTSU is very good and the conference goes through them.”
