Lady Owls victories again over Bethune-Cookman University

November 20, 2010 - - FAU, lead by Seniors Terri Stamps, (who was first to score in the game) and Viviana Penate with a little give and go, broke through on the offensive side of the ball in the early goings of the game.

Penate, quite the passing artist gave the fans a show with quick footwork, no look passes and behind the back dishes. Penate finished with nine points and went 4-6 from the field.

Chenice Miller, was yet another impact player with 10 points. Every Owl was accounted for and played minutes in the game. The top four who scored highest in minutes were Miller with 29, April Goins with 26, Terri Stamps with 29 and Takia Brooks with 26 minutes.

With the score quickly getting away from Bethune-Cookman, just trying to hold on was a big task. With nine rebounds from Chenise Miller and eight on the defensive end, BCU's one shot no rebounds, couldn't stack up to the Owls. Not to mention that FAU got much bigger from last years lineup.

Takia Brooks also hauled down six boards while three players for the Owls grabbed four apiece. With Latavia Dempsey knocking down a triple with 10:49 remaining in the first half, FAU then led by 20.

It was Terri Stamps who took the leadership roll while keeping the momentum on FAU's side. Each possession more important than the next, as the Owls captured a 25 point lead.

Instead of pushing the ball up court when your up numbers, pulling the ball back to go around the horn, is a rule for the Owls. “If theres not a clear layup, we pull up” said Coach Chancellor Dugan.

The MVP for Bethune was Jasmine Elum, who played 39 minutes,.had 15 points, and went 7-20 from the field. At the half, FAU went in the lockeroom with a 39-15 advantage.

After the half, FAU worked on increasing the lead, and gathered a score of 41-16 with a few minutes gone in the third quarter. At that juncture, BCU started to cut into the lead.

FAU gathered their greatest lead, by 26 points in the contest with 5:00 minutes left in the game. Clearly the lead seemed insurmountable as the Owls never let their foot up off the gas.

The discipline on this team is clear. They don't wait for anyone, they go for their shots and if the shots don't fall, they are on the defensive/offensive end for rebounds.

FAU ended on a high note with a differential of 22 points. After the game the Coaches and the staff stuck around giving a clinic to the kids gathered at the game. A nice time was had by all.
