Owl Pitching and hitting needed – in that order as the Cajuns down FAU Whereas the Owls of FAU used three pitchers, the ULL Cajuns utilized two. Strictly from a pitching standpoint, FAU did not have to go deep into its ranks to play this game.
This allows for reserves which are available for Sunday’s completion of the series in Louisiana-Lafayette. Joe Zimmermann was the winning pitcher for ULL with 5.1 innings pitched, and allowed for three hits and two strikeouts while facing 18 batters.
Caleb Kellogg got the save for ULL with 3.2 innings pitched on 4 hits, while facing 14 batters and throwing 48 pitches. Paul Davis took his 5-0 record into this tilt but came away with a loss, and is now 5-1. Davis pitched three innings with 7 hits, and allowed 5 runs.
Jake Myers and Ahmed Garcia were both used for FAU with a combined 5 innings pitched and allowing 1 run to cross the plate. Myers and Garcia both had a strikeout to their credit, throwing a combined 82 pitches.
Davis threw 67 pitches with two walks.
Sean Bukovich and Andy Mee were exceptional on this day going 2 for 3, with a combined two walks. Designated hitter Mike Spano also saw action and went 1 for 4.
Although the Owls were not short on hits, they left a combined 11 batters on base.
The first inning may have set the tone for this match-up, with a total of three players left on base. To boot in the second inning, 2 Owl’s were left on base.
In just about every inning, except the 8th, FAU had men left on base. The two runs accounted for, were produced in the fourth and ninth innings.
In the 9th and final inning, Andy Mee singled bringing in Raymond Church. Church was at it again in the 4th with a sacrifice fly bringing in Nick DelGuidice for the second and final run of the game.
