Game 1: FAU Football scores a victory over UAB in Alabama Sept. 3, 2010 - The difference in favor of the Owls @FAU in game one of the 2010 season was one point. The (UAB) University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers fell, 32-31 in Alabama.
A pattern begins to develop for Owl fans, watching games along a tightrope with time winding down. (See Baseball) @ http://fausports.com/.
The perfect combo of players on Thursday night against UAB, created by Howard Schnellenberger and his Staff, were well timed. Make no mistake; Football is a huge challenge from studying film to on the field work.
Take a look at (http://espn.com/) ESPN and you’ll see Jeff Vancamp’s Passer rating, (180.2) for #4 in the nation. More stats come in for FAU at the Interception rate.
Brentley Harstad picked off one, and is good for #4 in the nation. (WR) Lester Jean comes in at #2 in receiving yards, with 164. To boot, Jean caught a one hander.
One might say we are only at the beginning of the season, where statistics compile only for one game. There is also a School of thought that says a good start is contagious.
Van Camp’s passing stat was 14 for 24 with 254 yards plus 2 Touchdowns. UAB has quite a QB themselves. His name is David Isabelle and he ran for 214 yards averaging 9.7 yards per carry. Another figure we can gather is that Isabelle went 9 for 19 for 79 yards.
According to Dave Lamont and Ken Lavicka, the men behind the Broadcast Microphone, this was an important win both for the Conference and overall National Ranking.
Alfred Morris did not disappoint the FAU faithful. Morris carried the ball 16 times for 103 yards. His longest was 38 yards and came at 2.20 remaining in the game. This is the way the score stayed at the conclusion, 32-31.
Not withstanding, UAB attempted to take the lead when Josh Zahn came on the field with a 28 yard field goal attempt. Not to be suppressed, the Owls defense got a hand on the ball and UAB was not able to swing the score on their side. Game over.
Senior Owl Jeff Blanchard had a few touches as well, and was a leading blocker for Morris in addition to his Kick Returning duties. Blanchard received 6 kicks for 114 yards with an average of 19 yards and his longest of 26.
Micky Groody punted 8 times for 348 yards and an average of 43.5 yards. His longest was for 56 yards.
Attendance at the game was 25,885.
