FAU versus Regional foes
Friday, June 4, 2010 - - With the challenge before them, the FAU Owls made the trek north to Gainesville for the NCAA Regional Championships. .
The Oregon State Beavers sported a (32-22) record coming into McKethan stadium on this day. Despite some late inning heroics off the bat of Dan Scheffler and Eddie Cassidy in the eighth, the Owls would take this loss to spur them on in subsequent Regional match-ups.
Part of the dilemma for the Owls was not having scored a run before the sixth inning.
Oregon State University tallied six runs by the end of the fourth inning.
Reaching back to Dan Scheffler and Eddie Cassidy, each going two for four, with a combined four RBI, and two Homeruns was spectacular. Other notables include Raymond Church (2/5), Colby Gratton (2/4), Sean Bukovich and Anthony Mesa (1/3).
Collecting the win for OSU was Greg Peavey (6-3). Peavey pitched 6.1 innings to 28 batters, on a combined seven strikeouts. FAU left seven players on base.
Saturday, June 5, 2010 - - The next opponent for FAU was Bethune Cookman. The Owls lit up the charts on this day, collecting a combined 12 runs on eighteen hits. FAU also scored a run in every inning except the sixth and ninth.
Performances by Dan Scheffler (3/6), Eddie Cassidy (2/4), Nick DelGuidice (3/5), Colby Gratton (3/4) and Anthony Mesa (2/4) were exceptional.
In the third inning, three runs crossed the plate for FAU.
Leading off the inning was Andy Mee with a single to left field, and eventually crossing the plate bringing with him the momentum for FAU.
If there is one negative you can mention about the game for the Owls was that 11 men were left on base in each of six innings. Men left on base occurred in innings 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/6th/8th.
Pitching for the Owls was Ryan Garton (7-3). Garton threw seven innings with five strikeouts to 28 batters.
Picking up the slack for the last two innings was Hugh Adams. Adams struck out one, and allowed only two hits. A number of notables for BCU filled the ranks for the 1,489 attendants.
Perez (3/4), Leonard (2/4), Castro (3/4) and Turner went (2/4) for Bethune. BCU went five deep into their rotation and had five pitchers account for a total of 7 strikeouts, 3 bases on balls, with a combined 189 pitches.
The Owls next face UF in their second match-up this series on Sunday.
