Owl’s lose to MTSU despite giving maximum effort

2/27/2010: The FAU Men’s Basketball team may have faltered during their home stand this past week, but that doesn’t mean their going to quit anytime soon.

Coach Jarvis was asked about the progress from a year ago, and he responded by saying,

“It is very difficult to be happy at this moment, we didn’t show up tonight.”

As far as how FAU played, you could write an instructional guide on how they played with heart. The Owl’s were fighting for every basket. It seems like there is no giving up with a Mike Jarvis Coached team. You kind of get the feeling that if you play FAU and you have an off night, the Owl’s chances are real good. Despite being down at one point by fifteen points, the Owl’s managed to put up fifty seven points to MTSU’s sixty-six.

Greg Gantt was high scorer with seventeen, Sanchez Hughley chipped in thirteen and had eleven rebounds while Raymond Taylor had eleven points and four assists. In the first half, FAU shot just over thirty percent while combined they shot 40% from the field. From three point land, FAU shot a combined 38.5%.

Conclusively, MTSU had eighteen points from their bench while FAU only collected four. Every player for MTSU had points while FAU had four non-starters with zero.

Brett Royster gave a yeoman’s effort playing the most minutes with thirty-nine. Next closest player was Alex Tucker with thirty-two minutes played. Freshman Darren Stewart played the most minutes as a non-starter with fifteen.

When asked what’s on the horizon for the Owl’s, Coach Jarvis said, “We’ll come back to work on Monday to prepare for the Sun-Belt Tournament,” and when asked if he has any surprises for the tournament, he said “We have a few things that work that we can throw at teams.”

The Sun-Belt Championships here starts in a little over a week, on March 6th. The tournament goes through March 9th, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Out of the ten teams that play, only one gets a bid to go to the NCAA’s Big Dance. FAU is seeded eighth.

Their first matchup is against 9th seeded South Alabama here (USA). If they win that game, that means they have to go through Troy here. Following that they would be in the Semi-finals and would most likely play UNT  here or MTSU here.
