FAU in a fight Mizzou for Auburn Invitational
2/26/2010 - - The Missouri Tigers defeated the Owl’s of Florida Atlantic University on Friday, at the Auburn Invitational.
A tournament with three teams, FAU being one of them and Boston College plus Missouri the others is held over a three day period in Alabama.
As for Boston College, FAU gets them on the 28th followed by a three game set in Boca Raton, Florida starting on the 5th of March. At least one game of experience for FAU should set things in place for the follow up meeting with BC at home.
As to the loss by FAU, you might figure due to the foreign soil and team made up of mostly freshman, experience might have been a factor.
Mizzou came out of the box early in the first inning scoring two off Taylor Everist of the Florida Atlantic pitching staff. The two runs were pseudo manufactured by a couple of singles and moving the base runners forward.
Fielding also comes into play as to whether the balls were retrieved properly and thrown all the way to home plate or if they arrived on a few hops, or were cutoff by an infielder and then thrown to home.
FAU scored both of their runs in the sixth and ninth innings respectively. In the sixth, the first man to come to bat was Andy Mee and he did not disappoint. Over the fence it went for a round tripper. During that sixth inning, one man was left on base.
Nick Delguidice and Anthony Mesa teamed to push the runner home (DelGuidice) from a double off the bat of Mesa. Again, one man was left on base for the Owl’s.
Missouri’s overall record now goes to (3-1) and FAU is at (2-2). Anderson collects the win (1-0) for Mizzou, while freshman Taylor Everist takes a loss.
