In Double overtime, the Owls and Ibis match-up in this tightly contested Duel
With a nuetral location at the Bank Atlantic Center in Broward County, Florida – the FAU Owls of Boca Raton and Miami Hurricanes of Miami-Dade, saw that both combatants had their own crowd enforce.
To boot, FAU's own dance team were present for a special treat to those in attendance at the Bank Atlantic Center, in Sunrise, Florida.
Starting off the game, FAU called it's first timeout early. This just after Omari Greer followed his three pointer into the huddle. Omari scored 27 on the day, and was 7/12 in three pointers, and went 100% from the free throw line.
FAU was playing within themselves, despite the score of 10-2 early, in favor of Miami. With 13:47 remaining in the first half, FAU started to chip away at the Hurricane's lead, and at 12:41 the Owls were only down by three.
The Canes decided to call a time out after a three pointer. UM lead by six, as we approached 11:02 mark remaining in the first half.
Kenny Kadji for the Ibis commented after his 21 point effort on the day, that all the credit goes to his teammates. Durand Scott, the second leading scorer for Miami checked in with 18 points on the day.
The score in the game was tied on 11 occasions, while FAU continued to score mostly from behind. That can be attributed as a result of 10 lead changes going into the 1st and 2nd overtime.
With the wind of the clock inching forward, the Owls flew back close enough to say they were most definitely in this game. Going into the locker room FAU halted momentum, pulled back, and were only light by four points.
In the first half and onto the second, it seems like FAU was always coming back from behind. With the opening of the curtain, the ball changed hands at least three times before FAU got points on the board.
Omari Greer was there again for one of his two for 27 on the day. In comes Ray Taylor, as he moves into the picture with a three pointer beyond the arc.
Going into the O/T and with Omari Greer on the floor, a sure thing is called for from this awesome performance. Greer missed the shot in the first O/T and he gets the ball right back with a steal, plus put back for the Owls.
Meanwhile, Alex Tucker knocked down two free throws, followed by another three pointer off the hands of Raymond Taylor. At 16:40, Omari Greer cut the lead to zero, and was fully producing in bunches.
It was Greer again who capped off the lead by three, moving ahead for the Owls. Scoring with a lead for FAU, it was baton down the hatches for the Owls again. The Hurricane's and the faithful took full effect matching shot by shot.
With 14:36 remaining, the Canes had a one point lead. Another three pointer from FAU closed the lead to zero again, and the Owls got the ball back on a foul. Another three from Greier gave FAU a 46-43 lead.
After the called timeout by the Hurricanes, FAU had a five point lead. With Miami pulling back off of a three, Kore White stepped in with 10:05 remaining in the game and tied up the score at 52. With 9:41 left in the game, UM had gone ahead with a three pointer.
The Owls came back in quick fashion off of an Alex Tucker basket, and with 8:35 left in the game, a media timeout is called with the score tied at 54. As per the first half, Miami goes on the attack again and garners their lead to seven points.
By the second overtime, FAU continued to manage the clock superbly. In all, they called four timeouts in overtime #2. At 3:41 remaining on the O/T clock, FAU saw their last tie score before the a Miami stronghold took place. With Raymond Taylor's two shots from the line keeping FAU in the game.
With a layup by Kore White and timeout, the Owls were at a margin of only four points, 92-88. Kore White appeared again, bringing the Owls closer with a layup, and a score of 93-90.
Although FAU couldn't get any closer in this match-up, everything was left on the floor during the Metro PCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic, at the Bank Atlantic Center.
