Owls: Pull out all the stops at the end of regulation to win over FIU
February 6, 2011 -- The calm, cool and collected Brett Royster who plays a leading roll for the Owls, came alive this night to find himself taking a front and center roll versus the cross county Golden Panthers of FIU Saturday night.
Royster embraces his opportunities as senior leader when the Owls need the help most. Modest, humble and selfless, Royster brought his team to the promise land this night.
Without him, the Owls might not have figured out the combination that fit for this difficult task. Going 7 for 8 from the field, and playing 39 of 40 minutes, Royster poured in 18 points.
With 4 seconds remaining, Royster layed in a bucket, off an assist by Alex Tucker. This brought his team to a final score of: 73 FAU to 72 FIU. Raymond Taylor was also pivotal on the night.
With 10 points in the contest, Taylor was perfect from the charity stripe. He collected 4 rebounds as directed by Coach Jarvis’ master plan, and made 3 steals to boot.
Greg Gantt used his sonar like 3 pointer to collect 19 points. Gantt was a perfect 4 for 4 from the foul line, collected three rebounds and played 34 of 40 minutes.
Other standouts include Shavar Richardson. With 14 points, in only 16 minutes played, and 3 assists, he is a welcome back story to his teammates. Jordan McCoy scored 8 and was a perfect 2 for 2 from the line along with his 28 minutes played.
High scorer for FIU was Phil Taylor with 16, followed by Marvin Roberts with 13 and Jeremy Allen and DeJuan Wright with 12 point each respectively.
Other highlights for the FIU Golden Panther were Eric Frederick with six rebounds and Dominique Robinson with three steals.
