FAU wins by one in Kentucky versus the Hilltoppers
November 6, 2010 - Two touchdowns and a field goal is all FAU needed to beat the Hill toppers of Western Kentucky University, an inter conference foe in the Sun-Belt.
The Owls picked their two touchdowns up in the first half and came away with a field goal by Ross Gornal (26 yards) in the fourth quarter.
Alfred Morris was stellar once again with a game total of 84 yards on the rush. Scoring a Touchdown in the first quarter, Morris ran for 19 yards at 3:32 in the first quarter for his first TD.
On the other side, Bobby Rainey – WKU’s leading rusher scored on an 11 yard run, topped off by a Point after by Monte Merrick (K) in the first quarter. WKU was the first to score while FAU was the last.
In quarter number two, Jeff Van Camp threw a 62 yard pass to sure handed Lester Jean for the second touchdown of the game. The Touchdown pass culminated 4 plays for a total of 80 yards, producing the Owls second touchdown.
In the second quarter, WKU collected a score from a safety in the end zone for 2 points, backing FAU into their own end zone and changing possessions.
Despite the fact that the Hill toppers had 33:35 minutes of possession compared to FAU’s 26:25, a difference of 7.1 minutes, FAU managed to make the most of their time.
Also, FAU fumbled six times – losing only one possession. Tavious Polo collected an interception netting 14 yards on the run back, while WKU’s Tyree Robinson INT was only run back for two yards.
It was as if each player was protecting one another’s back, which makes for good team play and togetherness. FAU, with this win brings their record to (3-5, 2-3).
They are back home at Ft. Lauderdale’s Lockhart Stadium versus the University of Louisiana Lafayette Rajun’ Cajuns this Saturday, November 13, 2010 at 7pm. Penalty numbers indicate stark differences for both teams.
They added up to 29 yards lost by FAU to 78 yards for WKU. These figures indicate that FAU was playing to win, not “playing not to lose.”
For example, total rushing yards was 45 for 198 by the toppers to 37 for 75 yards for the Owls. Jeff Van Camp threw for 140 yards compared to WKU’s Kajuan Jakes 70. Lester Jean was leading all receivers for 62 total yards on the pass catch.
Kick-off started at 3:30pm EST and ended at 6:23 pm, Sunny with 47F temps in Bowling Green at Houchens Industries - L.T. Smith Stadium.
