FAU finds itself atop the Division with a 4-0 record in the Sun-Belt Conference
The baskets were not dropping in the first half of play for FAU, and began to affect the second half as well. When asked, Coach Jarvis said, “When you are missing shots, you know that eventually their going to fall”, a message the Coach surely re-iterated to his team at half.
According to http://fausports.com/, strong defense was a big part of this win. When the shots weren’t coming for FAU, they maintained there lead with effective rebounding, blocked shots and steals.
Brett Royster and Kore White had 3 and 4 blocked shots apiece. Steals were accounted for with 6 all told. Kore White (12) and Greg Gantt (11) each helped on the scoring end, while double sevens came from Shavar Richardson and Raymond Taylor.
Rebound totals for the Owls were a staggering 33 boards, 9 on the offensive end and twenty four on defense.
The triple threat of Donald Boone (16) Rashad Allison (11) and Martavius Adams (11) carried the Arkansas State Red wolves to inches short of a victory.
The crowd was no doubt a central part of this script. Their assistance was palpable and took a page out of the crowds of college basketball lore.
Ray Taylor, who was interviewed at the end of the game spoke of the Jarvis/Taylor communication with these words “the Coach demanded a lot from us, and we played good defensively”.
The intensity provided by the never give up Taylor, bolsters the offensive and defensive ends of the Court. It’s clear with the intensity and team cohesiveness that the Owls provide; this could very well be a product of their wins.
Next game tips off at 7pm at the burrow on Tuesday the 11th of 2011 versus Manhattan.
