Sands makes contributions in Play, fundraising and Instruction as FAU Golf Coach

Having the pleasure to speak with the Head Men’s Golf Coach Angelo Sands yesterday, I was able to see that teaching golf takes front and center in fielding the best team academically, intellectually and publicly.

In addition to the game of Golf, Sands makes his home Florida with family and friends. His wife, Patricia Liehr, is the associate dean for Nursing Research and Scholarship at FAU’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing.

Once a Mayor, Coach Sands served four years at the City of New Castle in Pennsylvania. For 10 years, Sands served as Golf Instructor at Quail Valley Country Club, High School Summer Camp and Junior League Summer Programs in Texas.

For his efforts, he was decorated with District Championships, Regional Championships and the Texas 5A State Championship.

For 12 seasons, Coach Sands taught golf at Elkins High school in Missouri City, and has been an educator for 30 years. In addition, Sands was a Benefactor of Golf through his Organizational and fundraising efforts.

When asked, “what’s it the difference in playing for a team or as an individual. Sands mentioned that some players play their whole lives just to play for the Ryder Cup, and in College there might be more pressure as you are not just playing for yourself.

When asked for the top three reasons he is most proud, Sands said firstly, getting the team to follow up with teamwork and academics was at the top of the list.

Next he mentioned Community involvement with donations of time by his team and serving the youth with Christmas gifts and support.

At http://fausports.com/ I found that Sands expressed that scholar athletes will bring recruitment to the fore as an example of how FAU is considered.

You will find the third annual Spring Break Tournament from March 24-27th at Glen Eagles Country Club hosted by FAU.

Some of the Schools that will be at the Championships include the University of Connecticut, the Ohio State University, DePaul, Northwestern and Marquette.
